Sanctuary
Sanctuary (Sn: 71) (Spell)
Help Sanctuary
Syntax: cast sanctuary <character>
Spell Number: 71
Casting sanctuary envelops the caster (or target) in an aura of divine
protection, reducing damage taken in combat.
Everyone affected by sanctuary gains at least a minimum amount of
protection, but higher Wisdom grants an additional percentage. This amount
of protection is based upon the target's wisdom, regardless of the origins
of the spell.
Primary stat: Wisdom.
Affected by : None.
Monsters with this affect generally yield more experience; the reason for
this is twofold. First, there is a base 10-15% experience point bonus on
monsters that have this affect by default; also, due to the fact that these
targets are generally killed less often, they are usually around longer and
receive a 'long life' experience bonus (see 'help experience').

Damage Mitigation
Sanctuary's damage mitigation depends solely on your total wisdom. The amount of mitigation is determined by a right-continuous step function, rather than a continuous (e.g. logarithmic or polynomial) function. This means that the amount of damage reduction varies according to what 'range' your wisdom is in. Note that the ranges are fairly narrow up to 240 wisdom, after which they broaden considerably.
In the table below, "Mit." is the mitigation, i.e. the percentage of raw damage that is prevented. For example, if you have at least 75 wisdom, but less than 80 wisdom, sanc reduces raw damage taken by 30%. "Coeff." is similar; simply multiply it by raw damage taken to see how much you would take with sanc. E.g., with the aforementioned wisdom stats and sanc, you would take only 70% of raw damage.
